SpaceX Launch Scrubbed
Re-launch to follow
by Carol Pinchefsky
MSNBC reports that the SpaceX launch of the Falcon 1 rocket scheduled for March 19, 2007, was scrubbed 62 seconds before launch. The article cited a telemetry problem, occurring perhaps when data transmission was switched from land line to radio.
Falcon 1 is a two-stage, liquid oxygen and rocket- grade kerosene (RP-1) powered launch vehicle.
According to the article, SpaceX Vice President Gwynne Shotwell said the next launch attempt would take place relatively quickly, before Tuesday. Although SpaceX may not have the luxury of time, the aerospace company certainly has the luxury of money: In August 2006, SpaceX, along with Kistler Aerospace, won a half billion dollar NASA contract to help develop alternate launch vehicles.
