Celebrate Space on Yuri's Night
Party marks 40th Anniversary of Gagarin's flight
by Peter Wainwright
On April 12, space afficionados around the world will be banding together to celebrate Yuri's Night. 12 April 2001 marks the 40th anniversary of Yuri
Gagarin's flight into space in 1961.
Around fifty parties in over twenty nations are scheduled; the party locator on the Yuri's Night website (http://yurisnight.net/) will help you find the one nearest you. Not unsurprisingly, citizens of the United States and United Kingdom have the most to choose from, closely followed by Australia, Canada, Japan, and of course Russia.
Parties are also taking place in Brazil, Burundi, Chile, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Pakistan, the Philippines, Romania, South Africa, Tanzania, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela. There's even one at the South Pole (!).
If there isn't one near you, the organisers have even put together a helpful guide to help you organise one.
